Safe Take-Home Kit

Some scammers pose as recruiters and send a "coding assignment" whose setup step runs malware on your machine. On November 3, 2026, Binance published a report saying a major attack started this way: a fake job interview and an assignment with code that ran during setup (Binance post, Hacker News discussion).

If you are looking for a developer job, this kit helps you check a take-home test before it touches your real laptop.

Fake recruiter checklist: warning signs in the outreach, the interview process and the assignment itself.
Disposable environment recipes: step-by-step ways to run a take-home inside a container, devcontainer, VM or cloud sandbox, away from your files, keys and wallets.
Repo review skill for Claude Code or Codex: asks the agent to read the repo before you run anything and flag risky spots, like install scripts (for example npm postinstall), obfuscated code and unexpected network calls.
"Never do this" list: what not to do on a work laptop or a machine with real credentials.

The review skill helps you look, it does not prove code is safe. An AI agent can miss things.
